Darren Brown - Treasurer

Darren Brown is pleased to join the board as Treasurer of the Association for the Protection of Rural Metchosin (APRM). A Vancouver Island resident since the early 1990s, Darren originally moved to the region to study biology at the University of Victoria, where he also met his future wife. After university, the couple settled in North Sooke and built a home overlooking the basin before relocating to Metchosin more than a decade ago. They now live in the Albert Head area of Metchosin and feel deeply rooted in the community.
Over the years, Darren has remained active in local initiatives, including 4H, coaching for JDF Soccer, volunteering with the Metchosin House, and serving on the board of the Metchosin Community Association. He was also a member of the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society, contributing to the brood stock take and the construction of the Charters River Hatchery and Salmon Interpretive Centre.
Professionally, Darren works as a Senior Project Manager at Island Health. During the pandemic response, he was invited to lend his expertise and continues to support key health initiatives today. Earlier in his career, he served as a Communications Officer at the Ministry of Environment, managing the ministry’s website and the Minister’s Environmental Awards, and supporting the development of the BC Environmental Management Act through significant stakeholder and public engagement.
A strong advocate for thoughtful, long-term planning, Darren has a particular interest in fiscal sustainability. While Metchosin’s financial model once reflected a uniquely careful approach, recent years have shown a noticeable shift toward increased spending. He believes that APRM plays a critical role in holding institutions accountable and looks forward to supporting that important work.
