Homer Dixon

Thomas Homer-Dixon is a renowned Canadian political scientist and award-winning author who researches threats to our global security. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo, holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is the founder and Executive Director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C.

Thomas has delighted Metchosin residents with his exemplary talks since his first presentation on March 14th, 2023, at an inaugural meeting in our newly refurbished Old School Gym. As expected, it was well attended – over 140 participants, including APRM members and multiple other interested parties within the community.

On November 14th., 2025, APRM once again had the distinct pleasure of hosting Thomas (‘Tad’) Homer-Dixon at APRM’s Annual General Meeting. Due to technical limitations, Tad’s remarkable and multi-faceted presentation was not recorded at that time. In lieu of a recording, we provide below links to some of the latest presentations and writings from Tad and his fellows at the Cascade Institute:

Enjoy!

Post-script: We are delighted to inform you that Thomas and his family are now our neighbours as they have recently moved to Metchosin. How fortunate for all of us to be able to draw upon Tad and his family members in the years to come.
