Michel Desjardins - Director at Large

Michel grew up in Edmonton, lived in Vancouver for a decade, then southwestern Ontario for 35 years, before settling on Vancouver Island.  Michel and his wife moved to this area in 2017, choosing to live in Spirit Bay and build community in Metchosin. Michel served as a university professor for three decades, teaching about religion, more recently focusing on the role that food plays in people’s religious lives across the world.

The woods, lakes and the oceans have been Michel’s teachers since his early childhood, and he continues to learn from them. In the years before arriving to Vancouver Island he and his wife were engaged in supporting and promoting local sustainable agriculture, and the organic farming culture in Metchosin helped draw them here.

Michel also serves as Treasurer of the Metchosin Foundation and looks forward to collaborative initiatives on matters of shared interest.
