Rachel French de Mejia  - Secretary

Rachel was raised in Metchosin and returned in 2019, settling back into her family home. Along with ongoing family ties, Metchosin’s natural beauty and rural nature was a strong draw for Rachel after 35 years in the lower mainland.  She was, however, immediately confronted with a bylaw breech in a purportedly protected covenant which resulted in a lengthy farce laying wide open the lack of adequate bylaw enforcement within the District. Rachel’s engagement in this matter led her into the arms of the APRM and she has served as Secretary of the association ever since.

Rachel is committed to promoting proper bylaw enforcement that supports our OCP, assisting in protecting our natural environment so that it can continue to be enjoyed not only by ourselves but also the wider community for generations to come, supporting local sustainable agriculture, and encouraging effective financial management in the District to ensure preservation of our rural way of life.

After working in mental health services for 30 years as an RN and nurse educator, the importance of preserving natural and rural spaces could not be more evident to Rachel as an important part of our community’s vitality, health and wellbeing.

The APRM

The APRM is dedicated to preserving the rural life and peaceful co-existence of homes, farmlands, forests, natural habitats and trails in our community. The APRM engages individuals and organizations through solid working relationships in the task of protecting our rural values. It informs members and the general public of threats, opportunities and issues impacting our future as a rural community.
